Components of the Future We Want
The Future We Want will create a variety products with social impacts as well as financial revenue. The proceeds will allow the organization to be self sufficient in year 5 and be used to fund localized versions of the Future We Want in cities around the world.
The Future We Want Exhibit
Housed initially in the Chicago Field Museum and then in museums around the world, the exhibit will show how cities, suburbs and rural areas will play key roles in solving climate change. Visitors will zoom in on components for in depth information on specific green features such as green buildings, transportation, smart urban design, and renewable energy systems.
The life size screens in the exhibit will allow visitors to feel as though they are stepping into the future and experiencing a low carbon built environment. An introduction movie will be followed by an interactive section. A Next Steps area will allow visitors to take action by writing their representatives or emailing themselves action items they can take to help build the Future We Want.
Below are examples of animations that will be incorporated into the exhibit and website:
How does Light Rail positively affect land use?
This video shows the relationship between investing in Light Rail Transit and creating vibrant, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. A combination of live action filming and computer generated graphics are used to touch the viewer emotionally and show how walkable urban places can offer a high quality of life and a lower carbon footprint.
Making Density Attractive
This video, used by a developer in Dallas to market a proposed high rise condo, uses green-screen technology and computer generated backgrounds to convey the life-style of living in a high rise condo. The Future We Want will use similar technology to show people living, working and playing in a sustainable built environment.
The Greening of Manchester
This video, produced by Arup, shows how a combination of sustainable technologies can be implemented across a city to create a green urban environment. The Future We Want will use similar techniques to show how our existing buildings and neighborhoods can adapt to have lower carbon footprint.
The Greening of Higher Education
This video shows the proposed woman’s dormitory in Qatar’s Education Center. Passive solar shading, as well as photo voltaic panels and wind turbines are incorporated into the design.
Communicating Regional Transportation Plans Through Video
This video communicates Central Indiana’s Transportation Initiative through a combination of motion graphics, 3d animation, and live action filming. The Future We Want will use similar technology to show how sustainable initiatives will result in a more positive place to live work and play.
